Since 2012

To support the development of Myanmar’s food science and technology sector, a workshop was held from 23 to 24 November 2012 at the Logistic Training Center, located within the Myanmar Port Authority compound in Yangon. The purpose was to establish a professional association that would connect experts, researchers, teachers, industry representatives, private-sector associations, and relevant government departments.
The workshop was organized with the support of UMCCI and its member organization, the Myanmar Agro-based Food Processors and Exporters Association (MAFPEA).
The association was initially intended to be named the Myanmar Association of Food Science and Technology (MAFST). However, to express its purpose more clearly, the name was later changed to the Food Science and Technology Association of Myanmar (FoSTAM). The organization adopted FoSTA Myanmar as its public-facing brand identity.
The association’s constitution, which was aligned with the organizational structures of food science and technology associations in other ASEAN countries, was translated into Myanmar language by Daw Win Win Kyi and submitted to the relevant ministries. FoSTA Myanmar was subsequently formally established in 2013.
Following completion of the registration process, FoSTA Myanmar was recognized as Myanmar’s national member association within the Federation of Institutes of Food Science and Technology in ASEAN (FIFSTA).
Since its establishment, the association has identified the following areas as its principal fields of work:
🔬 Research and Development
⚖️ Ethics and Standards
🌏 Domestic and International Relations
🛡️ Food Safety and Public Awareness
🎓 Training and Professional Seminars
The journey of FoSTA Myanmar, which began in 2012, marked an important milestone in connecting Myanmar’s food science and technology sector with regional professionals and organizations.
